October has been beautiful! No complaints what-so-ever.
I loved listening to General Conference. Here is a link to a couple of my favorite talks from this session. Interestingly enough they were given one after the other; both by former cardiologists. Perhaps these two were two of my favorite because Sunday morning the kids weren’t fighting and whining as much; or maybe it was because these are what I needed to hear most. I don’t know. Some of you may wonder why Elder Holland’s talk is not listed here. Honestly, I don’t know. He gave one of the most beautiful talks ever about mothers…but it didn’t touch me quite like his talks normally do. I think it’s because lately, I’ve needed to remember that I am my own person…a daughter of God that He knows individually; not in conjunction with my kids, or even my husband- just me; I am still me. I think that is why Elder Nelson’s talk spoke to me so much.

The next week was California!!! Quick run-down: Wednesday night Vegas; Thursday morning the Bouchan in Vegas; Thursday afternoon the beach at Camp Pendleton and then a farmer’s market where I ate myself sick. Friday the Safari Park and then Sea Harbor Village that night. Saturday morning the beach. Saturday evening Old Town and delicious Mexican food on an outdoor villa. Sunday the drive home. It was absolutely beautiful and relaxing.
That next Monday my baby ate sand…and grapes:
A couple days later he decided to try out bras. (Side note: does anybody else’s boys do this? My other two do it too-weirdos). Much like me, he decided pretty quickly he didn’t like them. They only entangle and ensnare you…and trap you. No fun at all.
Intermission while I pontificate on my baby- About a week or so ago baby did his usual thing and threw everything off of his tray on to the floor during lunch time. This included food, his bottle, and a pair of his overalls I had hung across the back of his chair to take down to the laundry later. I got him out of his seat and cleaned him up, and then realized I wasn’t fully sure where his bottle had gone. I set him on the floor and in exasperation told him, “Go get your bottle and give it to mommy”, and do you know what he did?! He toddled over; PICKED UP HIS OVERALLS, and retrieved the bottle that was underneath!!! I was floored!!! Not only did he completely understand what I had told him, but he knew where something was that he couldn’t see!!! This just confirmed in my mind that if a 14 month old can find something he can’t see, then this whole “I can’t find it!” my other two pull on me when they are looking right at an object is bull crap. I was in heaven singing praises about what a genius of a baby I have…until a couple hours later…when he tried eating sand… again. (sigh). ![]()
A couple days after that we went on the annual hay-ride to the pumpkin patch and picked our pumpkins…green ones. This was followed by massacring them out on our lawn:
Shortly there after my kids had the unfortunate experience of mom deciding she wanted family pictures…and try her hand at school pictures since we were too cheap to buy them from the school:
I don’t understand why somebody always has to be crying…or picking their nose…or looking in to outerspace…or crawling away from the spot I’ve tried to confine them to…
And last of all- yesterday was party day: party at the preschool; party at the elementary school; party at church. Good day. I couldn’t get any pics of Mason’s Halloween party because I was too busy; too busy making the craft for the many 1st graders that they were supposed to be making themselves. Grrr. (Side note: if you are in charge of a craft for little kids; do not do one that requires them to tie bows…or twist pipe cleaner together.) I also couldn’t get any pics of the neighborhood/church party because apparently my camera cannot focus or take pictures inside…or anywhere darker than midday sun…even with the flash and everything on. GRRR!!! Time to get a new one.
Here is also a little preview for Halloween.
Note: the picking up the bottle thing was not just a fluke. A couple of days ago he spilled a container full of wooden beads. He helped me pick up the ones on the ground, and then reached under a table we have downstairs (it has a floor board that is only about two-three inches off the ground) anyway- he reached under the floorboard and got all the beads out from under there. But still, he did eat sand twice…so…
